The right way to store extra linens is critical to ensure it remains pristine and usable when you need it. When storing guest linens for off-season use, the right storage methods can prevent musty odors, stains, and damage from pests or moisture.

Clean every piece of bedding before putting it away. Even if it looks clean, dust, skin cells, and body oils can accumulate over time and cause discoloration and fungal growth. Choose a hypoallergenic laundry product and avoid fabric softeners, which can leave residues that attract dirt. Dry bedding thoroughly before packing—any residual dampness can trigger fungal growth inside containers.

Use ventilated storage solutions rather than non-breathable plastic tubs. Avoid storing bedding directly on the floor, especially in damp crawl spaces where humidity runs high. Place containers on wooden blocks to elevate the containers and reduce trapped moisture.
